About
Richard Judge brings something to commercial litigation that most litigators cannot claim: a background in finance, a career in sales before law school, and over 25 years of courtroom and negotiating table experience across virtually every category of business dispute. That combination — analytical, practical, and battle-tested — is what his clients get when a dispute requires someone who understands both the legal issues and the business realities behind them.
Originally from Royal Oak, Michigan, Richard moved to Texas in 1976 and has called The Woodlands home since 2004. He earned his B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and then spent several years in beer and liquor sales before attending law school — a career he credits as providing as much preparation for legal practice as law school itself. Understanding what motivates the other side of a negotiation, how deals get made and fall apart, and what business owners actually care about are skills that textbooks don't teach. Richard built those skills before he ever set foot in a courtroom, and they have shaped his approach to every matter since.
Richard has over 25 years of legal experience handling complex commercial and business litigation. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts throughout Texas and beyond in matters involving contract disputes, employment law, construction defect cases, real estate litigation, professional liability claims, trade secrets, insurance coverage disputes, non-compete and non-disclosure enforcement, and environmental claims. He is admitted to all four federal district courts in Texas and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — the federal appellate court that governs Texas — giving him the range to handle matters from the trial court through appeal.
What distinguishes Richard's practice is versatility. Business disputes rarely stay in one lane. A contract dispute has employment implications. A construction case has insurance dimensions. A non-compete fight involves trade secrets. Richard's breadth across these overlapping areas means he can see a dispute whole rather than through a narrow specialty lens — and adapt quickly when the facts or the law change.
Richard is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, an honor extended by election to less than one percent of Texas attorneys in recognition of outstanding contributions to the legal profession and the community. He has served as Vice President and Director of The Woodlands Bar Association and is actively involved with the Montgomery County Bar Association. He is a leader at West Conroe Baptist Church, where he mentors young people in faith and the outdoors. Richard and his wife Alison are proud parents of two sons who are NCAA Division I athletes. Outside the office, you will find him on the golf course or coaching and supporting his community.
